Equaron Terms of Use
Version [1.0], last updated [date].
1. About these terms
1.1 These terms apply when you use Equaron: the website at equaron.app, its rooms, and anything else we provide under the Equaron name.
1.2 Equaron is run by [full legal name], a sole trader trading as Equaron, of [postal address], United Kingdom ("we", "us"). You can contact us at [email protected].
1.3 By creating an account you agree to these terms, our Acceptable Use Rules and our Copyright and Reporting Policy. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your personal information.
1.4 Please read them. If you don't agree, don't use Equaron.
2. Who can use Equaron
2.1 You must be 16 or over. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up. If we learn that someone under 16 has an account, we will close it.
2.2 Equaron's everyday plans are for personal use only. That means use for yourself, your friends and family, and not for a business, school, charity or other organisation. Organisations need one of our business plans.
2.3 Equaron isn't offered in Australia at the moment.
2.4 You must give us true information (in particular, your real date of birth) and keep it up to date.
3. What Equaron is
3.1 Equaron gives you a shared web browser that runs on our computers. Everyone in a room sees the same browser, streamed to their own device, and people can take turns controlling it.
3.2 The websites opened in a room belong to other people. We don't make, check or control what's on them, and their own terms apply to how you use them.
3.3 Rooms are temporary. A room closes a short time after everyone leaves, unless your plan lets you save it. Equaron is not a storage service: keep your own copies of anything that matters to you.
3.4 During our invite-only beta, you need an invite to create a full account, and some features may change or be missing. We'll tell you before the beta ends.
4. Your account
4.1 Guest accounts take one step (a name, your date of birth and agreeing to these terms). A guest can join rooms, chat and control a room when handed control, but can't host rooms, save anything or buy a plan. A guest account ends after about 30 days without use.
4.2 Full accounts sign in with an emailed link, Google or Discord. You need a full account to host rooms or buy a plan.
4.3 One account is for one person. Keep your sign-in methods secure and tell us at once if you think someone else has used your account. You're responsible for what's done with your account unless it was used without your permission and you weren't careless.
5. Hosting a room and handing over control
5.1 The host is responsible for their room: who they let in, and what is opened and shown in it while they host. Hosts have tools to approve people, remove them, ban them and limit who can join.
5.2 Handing someone control lets them act in the room as if they were you. That includes using any website you're signed in to in that room. Only hand control to people you trust.
5.3 Saved logins. If your plan saves rooms, a saved room can remember the sites you signed in to. Anyone you later hand control to in that room can use those accounts. You can remove them at any time with "Forget all logins", and we forget them after about 30 days without use.
5.4 If you share your room link publicly, anyone who has it may try to join. Use the host tools to control who gets in.
5.5 Room names. Don't give a room a name that is offensive or misleading, or that breaks our Acceptable Use Rules. We may rename or remove a room whose name does.
6. What you open and show is your responsibility
6.1 You are responsible for what you open, show, type and share in Equaron, and for following the terms of the websites and accounts you use in it.
6.2 In particular, you must not use Equaron to rebroadcast paid or restricted content (such as a subscription streaming service) to people who aren't entitled to watch it, or otherwise to infringe anyone's copyright. Our Acceptable Use Rules list what isn't allowed.
6.3 We may look at a room, close it, or limit or close an account when we receive a report or have good reason to think these terms are being broken. We don't watch rooms as a matter of course.
7. Price and limits
7.1 Equaron is free. Hosting rooms on your own computer with our desktop app costs nothing. A few limits apply to everyone, such as how many rooms you can have open at once, how many saved rooms you can keep, and a lower picture quality (720p) for viewers who have to connect through our relay because a direct connection doesn't work. The current limits are on our website equaron.app. Picture quality is a maximum and depends on each person's computer, connection and device.
7.2 Your own computer does the work. Rooms run on your computer and its graphics card, so the picture quality and how many people can watch also depend on your computer and your internet connection. Hosting rooms on our servers isn't offered yet; we'll update these terms when it is.
7.3 Use the Equaron app as we provide it. The limits apply to every room you host. Changing the Equaron app or running a changed copy to get around them, or to host rooms that skip Equaron's sign-in, safety checks or site filters, breaks these terms. We may end the room, remove what you got that way, or close the account.
7.4 Supporting Equaron. [Not used for now: there's no supporter page (2026-10-30). If one is added:] You can choose to support Equaron through [Patreon]. That's a separate arrangement under [Patreon]'s own terms, which handle payment, tax and refunds. Supporting is optional and, unless we say otherwise, doesn't change what Equaron does for you.
7.5 Paid plans later. If we start offering paid plans (for example, hosting rooms on our servers), we'll add their terms here first, and you'll agree to them before you pay.
8. (Not used while Equaron is free)
The free trial's terms come back with paid plans.
9. (Not used while Equaron is free)
Renewing and cancelling come back with paid plans.
10. (Not used while Equaron is free)
Your legal right to cancel a purchase comes back with paid plans.
11. Ours and yours
11.1 Equaron's software, design, name and logo belong to us (or the people we license them from). We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use Equaron under these terms. You must not copy, change, reverse-engineer or resell it, except where the law allows.
11.2 What you bring into a room (your messages, pins, what you type) stays yours. You give us the permission we need to run the room: to show and stream it to the people in that room and to keep it as long as these terms and our privacy policy say.
11.3 Links we show. Some links on our Discover pages and room boards earn us a small commission if you buy something. We label those pages. It never changes the price you pay.
11.4 Your ideas. If you send us feedback or an idea for Equaron, we may use it freely, without paying you or owing you anything. Please don't send us anything you want to keep confidential.
11.5 Other companies' services. Some parts of Equaron rely on other companies, which have their own terms and privacy policies: signing in with Google or Discord, paying through our reseller (section 7.2), and the websites opened in rooms (section 3.2). We don't control those services. Using them is between you and that company.
12. Safety features
12.1 Rooms block some kinds of sites (such as adult, gambling, malware and VPN sites) and turn on SafeSearch. Adult and gambling sites stay blocked in any room with someone under 18 in it. These filters help but aren't perfect.
12.2 We may change which sites are blocked.
13. Changes to Equaron and these terms
13.1 We may change Equaron, for example to improve it, to keep it secure or to follow the law. If a change makes your paid plan significantly worse, we'll tell you in advance and you can cancel and get a refund for any time you've paid for but not used.
13.2 We may update these terms. We'll tell you about important changes before they apply and ask you to agree again. If you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
14. Ending your use of Equaron
14.1 You can delete your account at any time in your account settings. You have 14 days to change your mind by signing back in. After that it's deleted as described in our privacy policy. A guest account is deleted straight away.
14.2 We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms or our rules, if we receive repeated valid copyright complaints about you (see our Copyright and Reporting Policy), or if the law requires us to. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond first.
14.3 Unused accounts. A full account that hasn't been used for 2 years may be deleted. We'll email a warning a month before if we have an email address. Accounts with a paid plan, or that bought anything in the last 2 years are never deleted for being unused.
14.4 If we close Equaron or your paid plan without it being your fault, we'll refund any time you've paid for but not used.
15. Things outside our control
We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events we can't reasonably control (such as a failure of the internet, a power cut or a provider's outage). We'll tell you and do what we reasonably can to limit the effect.
16. Our responsibility for loss or damage
16.1 We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We aren't responsible for loss or damage that isn't foreseeable. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if we both knew it might happen when you agreed to these terms.
16.2 We don't exclude or limit our responsibility where it would be unlawful to. That includes death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, and your legal rights in relation to digital content and services (for example, that they're as described, fit for purpose, of satisfactory quality, and provided with reasonable care and skill). If faulty digital content we supplied damages your device or other digital content, we will either repair the damage or pay you fair compensation, unless you could have avoided it by following our advice to apply a free update or by meeting the minimum system requirements.
16.3 Equaron is for personal use only, so we aren't responsible to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.
16.4 We aren't responsible for the websites opened in rooms or for what other people do in a room, except where we've failed to act on something we were told about, as our policies say we will.
16.5 We aren't responsible for other companies' services (section 11.5), such as an outage at Google or Discord that stops you signing in, except where the problem is caused by us breaking these terms.
17. If there's a problem
17.1 Contact us at [email protected]. We aim to reply within 1 working day.
17.2 If you're unhappy with how we've handled a complaint, you can take it to court (see section 18).
18. Other important terms
18.1 We may transfer our rights and duties under these terms to another organisation, for example if Equaron becomes a limited company. We'll tell you, and it won't reduce your rights.
18.2 You may only transfer your account to someone else with our written agreement.
18.3 Only you and we have rights under these terms. Nobody else can enforce them.
18.4 If a court decides part of these terms is invalid, the rest still applies.
18.5 If we don't insist on something straight away, we can still insist on it later.
18.6 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your own country's courts. If you live in the EU, you also keep the protection of your own country's consumer laws.
